Digital exclusion in the East of England

Earlier in the year our managing director Roz Davies spoke at the East Accord Annual Event. We’re sharing Roz’s talk in which she discusses Thrive by Design, the work we have been doing with Integrated Care Systems and the top three things everyone should consider and act upon to help create a digitally inclusive and equitable healthcare system.

The objective of this year’s event was to uncover how the agenda for digital transformation may best be taken forward across the East of England in a multi-disciplinary manner and provide a legacy of sustainable outcomes.

Roz was invited to speak because of the work Thrive by Design have been doing with Sarah Boyd and Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care System (ICS) around inclusive digital transformation. We are half way through the work but together we have already created a digital exclusion mapping tool, and an accompanying cost-benefit analysis tool. These allow the ICS to project the impact digital inclusion activities will have along with the potential savings. This set of tools support inclusive digital transformation and are something that we are now rolling out with two further ICS’s.

The title of the panel discussion that Roz was invited to speak as part of was ‘‘Transformation or Digital Exclusion? How to design a digitally inclusive and equitable health and care system for all’’ and she appeared virtually alongside Simon Bolton, Kevin White, Geoff Connell and Anthony Lundrigan. It was great to share our work with Norfolk and Waveney ICS with colleagues from across the region and we are now looking ahead to take it nationwide.

Let’s be honest about the deep root of digital exclusion; it’s about poverty - poverty of income and resource, poverty of skills and motivation and poverty of trust
