Digital Strategy and Innovation Model

Thrive by Design (then mHabitat) supported Sirona, a Bristol based community interest company providing NHS and local authority services, to develop an enabling digital strategy. In addition to co-designing the strategy with people accessing and providing services, we supported Sirona to develop a sustainable model for digital innovation.

Introduction

Sirona asked Thrive by Design to support them in the development of a digital strategy and a model for digital innovation to be used within the organisation. The digital strategy is an enabler to the wider organisational strategic direction and development. We also worked with Sirona to ensure that the strategy and methodology supported them to meet the digital requirements of an upcoming tender for community services.

Learning

We delivered a participatory co-design process to develop the strategy which involved the following activities:

  • A mandate workshop with the board and executive
    management team

  • A survey of the workforce’s digital confidence

  • Interviews with key internal and external stakeholders

  • Co-design workshops for people accessing and providing services, including the  co-creation of personas to guide strategy development

  • A review of IT infrastructure (delivered by our partners Ethical Healthcare)

  • An outcomes workshop with senior leaders

  • Mock interviews to support procurement preparation.

This work resulted in the following outputs:

  • A national technology briefing

  • An internal vision summary with user-centred statements

  • A digital strategy

  • A digital service design and innovation model including a governance framework.

Feedback

I really valued the input of Thrive by Design: I appreciated their ability to provide a loose but inclusive structure for discussions and from the outputs to accurately discern patterns and themes. They bought with them an enthusiasm and curiosity that was energising and generative
